The President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will host the President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E Macky Sall, on a two-day Official visit from Tuesday 18th to Wednesday 19th July 2023.
The visit is intended to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two sister countries.
This has come when on 14th Feb 2022 President Yoweri Museveni was hosted in Senegal by President Macky Sall in the Senegalese Capital Dakar where the two Presidents discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest between the two countries – Uganda and Senegal.
President Sall who was by then Chairperson of the African Union also discussed with his guest, the security situation and economic developments on the continent during the visit.
On the visit, President Museveni was received at Leopold Sedar Senghor Military Airbase in the Capital Dakar by President Macky Sall and others at the Military Base which included the Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Aissata TALL SALL, the Minister of Defense Sidiki KABA, the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Antoine Felix DIOME, and the Governor of Dakar Alhsane SALL.
After their meetings, President Yoweri Museveni was seen off by President of the Republic of Senegal Sonore Macky Sall at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Military Airport Dakar.
H.E. Macky Sall became the President of Senegal in April 2012. He was re-elected President in the first round of voting in February 2019.
Under the leadership of President Abdoulaye Wade, Mr. Sall was Prime Minister of Senegal from July 2004 to June 2007 and President of the National Assembly from June 2007 to November 2008.
He was the Mayor of Fatick Town from 2002 to 2008 and held that post again from 2009 to 2012. Sall was a long-time member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS).
After coming into conflict with Wade, he was removed from his post as President of the National Assembly in November 2008; he consequently founded his party named the Alliance for the Republic (APR) and joined the opposition.
Placing second in the first round of the 2012 Presidential election, he won the backing of other opposition candidates and prevailed over Wade in the second round of voting, held on 25 March 2012. He is the first President born after Senegalese independence from France.
