In 2012, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited Katoogo Health Centre III located in Katoogo Sub-County in Mukono District, and pledged to have the facility upgraded to Health Centre IV.
Yesterday, the Office of the National Chairman coordinators for Greater Mukono; Gashegu Muramira, Jamada Kivumbi, and Ekopu Ibrahim made a monitoring visit to the facility.
The facility is having a complex of works going with new blocks to house a theater worth Ugx 920 million expected to be the best within the Mukono district.
The construction is also to house an inpatient, pediatric block, and accommodation for the medical staff while on duty.
The facility serves the lowest of 200 outpatients a day which calls for more deployment of medical officers to match the scaling-up demand.
Ms.Hellen Namuleme an enrolled nurse stated “We are few as medical officers compared to the alarming demand for services. Since the start of work of upgrading the facility, the patients turn up increased”
Gerald Kazibwe a patient said that “We are grateful to President Museveni for fulfilling his pledge. We now don’t have to travel the long distance to Mukono General Hospital to get health services.”
The District Health Officer Dr. Steven Mulindwa appreciated the ONC-Staff for executing monitoring roles within the district and promised to have a good collaboration to see that, the peasants get the best of services as expected.
The DHO added that “The theatre is to be a center of service for several operations and the pressure at the General Hospital is expected to scale down”.
Mr. Gashegu the ONC coordinator said that “The works are ongoing at the facility and the patients are so happy with the investment. They no longer have to walk long distances to Mukono Main Hospital”
