AMBASSADOR ABBEY PITCHES CAMP IN NIGERIA TO STRENGTHEN THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

The SPA/DA, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, today arrived in Abuja, Nigeria yesterday 26th of April, to attend the Inaugural Global Diaspora Summit, themed; “Strengthening the African Diaspora for Sustainable Development.” The event aims to empower African migrant workers and further relationships between African countries.

Ambassador Walusimbi was accorded a warm reception at Abuja International Airport.

Ambassador Walusimbi, who is representing the President of the Republic of Uganda, at the inaugural Global Diaspora Symposium, expressed his excitement for the summit, and the opportunity it presents for African nations, to work together toward a common goal.

Upon arrival, Walusimbi said: “I am honored to be here today, representing the Republic of Uganda. The event will present a unique opportunity for us to discuss and strategize on ways to strengthen the African diaspora, and empower African migrant workers.”

On his maiden visit to Abuja, the Ambassador, interacted with the Uganda High Commission to Nigeria, led by, Deputy Ambassador, H.E. Alfred Nnam, who noted that they handle a large influx of Ugandan diasporas, as a result of budget constraints, on top of lack of direct flights to Nigeria fro Uganda.

Interestingly, however, Ambassador Walusimbi expressed his pleasure at the growing relationship between Uganda and Nigeria, including the upcoming direct flights to and from Uganda, by Uganda Airlines.

The SPA/DA noted that President Museveni fronts and pushes for the betterment of his ‘Bazukulu’. He, therefore, assured that the President will secure living and working conditions of Ugandan diasporas in Nigeria. He also urged the Ugandan diasporas to take advantage of the existing investment opportunities back home, and embrace government development programs.

More so, the SPA/DA, Ambassador Walusimbi is scheduled tomorrow to deliver a special message from President Museveni at State House, Abuja.

In attendance was the Defence Attaché, Brig. Gen. Herbert Rwego Mbonye, & Head Ugandan community in Nigeria, Robert Komakech.
