According to the UNAIDS report for 2021, 38.4 million globally are living with HIV and 1.4 million Ugandans are living with HIV. There is a decline in HIV infections from 88,000 to 54,000 in 2022 according to the Uganda Aids Commission Report. However, there is a threat of an increase in infections, especially among young people despite the global commitment to end HIV/AIDS by 2030.
The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was named the Good Will ambassador by the UNAIDS program for East and Southern Africa and for the last decade has been contributing towards fighting HIV/AIDS through mainly his birthday where thousands of Ugandans participate in creating awareness and financial contribution.
Today morning the manager of the Office of the National Chairperson for NRM SPA/Political Affairs Hadijah Namyalo Uzeyie paid a courtesy call to the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga at Bulenga Mengo in Kampala and procured birthday kits for the “Bazzukulu Ba Museveni” worth Ugx 30 million worth of 15,000 kits in support of the Kabaka birthday run.
The kingdom minister Owek. Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu who received the ONC manager stated ” The fight against HIV/AIDS is not about tribes, religions, and political parties. HIV/AIDS attacks everyone and therefore we need to collectively muscle up to wipe out its existence in Uganda, East Africa, Africa, and the world over by 2030. I thank President HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the good gesture to support the Kingdom in the cause”
SPA Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye in the company of multitudes of “Bazzukulu Ba Museveni” and the ONC senior staff emphasized in her remarks “HIV/AIDS is challenging more in the Bazzukulu and HE the President is more committed to continuing to support the Kabaka birthday run project and other Kingdom initiatives objected to securing better livelihoods for the people of Buganda and Uganda at large”.
The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga welcomed the ONC manager and appreciated the procurement of 1500 kits worth Ugx 30 million as a good gesture from the President of the Republic of Uganda and National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement.
The Kabaka birthday run is secluded for April 16th – Sunday of this weekend under the theme “ending HIV/AIDS by 2030”.
