Stay calm over KDB’s Pronouncement Made on our Milk.

Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has appealed to manufacturers and private investors in the dairy industry to stay calm over the pronouncement by the Kenya Dairy Board over the importation of Milk.

In a notice dated March 6, 2023, to all milk importers in Kenya, Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) managing director Margaret Kibogy, ‘the government stopped the importation of milk powders to cushion the industry from surplus production and low prices in what some think is a spillover of Kenya’s internal politics.

Now According to Kadaga, she saw the notice via social media and engaged the Minister of East Africa Community in Kenya, Rebecca Miano who denied knowing about the matter although she promised to engage with the concerned departments.

Kadaga says if the ban is implemented it will endanger the dairy industry in Uganda.

The ban comes at a time when President William Ruto recently indicated that he will lift any ban on goods coming within East Africa as the country seeks to find new markets for its products instead of imposing restrictions.
